Worth the Turn
Hello,
There's always something happening at the Travellers Rest. That's the nature of running a pub — just when you think things might settle down, another idea comes along.
Lately, I've been thinking about what makes the TRH a little different. We're a country pub, certainly, but we're also a dining destination, a small distillery and a place where people can come together for music, a good meal or simply a catch-up with friends.
I'd love more people to discover Thorpdale and make a day or a weekend of it. Sometimes all it takes is a good reason to get off the beaten track.
So, alongside our usual events, I'll be sharing a few stories from behind the scenes, things we're making at the distillery and interesting discoveries from around Gippsland.
Here's what's coming up at the pub.
Jill

Christmas is heading our way!
It's hard to believe we're already thinking about Christmas, but the planning has begun at the TRH.
We're putting together our Christmas packs, featuring a few of our favourite things from the distillery and some ideas for gifting that are a little different from the usual Christmas fare.
We'll have them available at the hotel from mid November, and we'll be taking them along to the Mirboo North Market and Christmas at the Boo, so you can pick one up while you're out and about.
We're still working through the details, but we're looking forward to sharing what we've come up with. If you're looking for something a little different for a Christmas gift, keep an eye out — there'll be plenty of local flavour in these packs!
More details coming soon and packs will be available online.

A little art, a little inspiration
From 22 November to 19 December, the Travellers Rest will be hosting an exhibition of original oil paintings by David Shields, featuring the beauty of the Australian landscape.
The exhibition will also feature art and a childrens book launch by Amy Chaplain, making it an opportunity to discover some wonderful creative work right here in Thorpdale.
I love the idea of bringing art into the pub. It gives people another reason to drop in, take their time and see something a little different. Come for a meal or a drink, have a look at the paintings and enjoy a visit to the TRH in a different way.
Put the dates in your diary — we'd love to see you.
Date: 22 November, 2026 - 19th December, 2026; Artwork will be available for sale

A little more character upstairs
We've been rethinking our accommodation at the TRH. The rooms have served us well, but we think there's an opportunity to make staying here something a little more memorable.
We're introducing a bit of flair and imagination, moving away from the predictable grey and creating rooms with more personality — somewhere that feels like part of the experience of visiting the Travellers Rest, rather than simply a place to sleep.
It's a work in progress, and we're looking forward to sharing more as it takes shape. After all, if you're going to make the trip to Thorpdale, we'd like the whole experience to be worth the turn.

POP UP CHRISTMAS CHOIR
We are excited to have Kate, Andrew and Sean together one more time, for a Christmas Edition of Pop Up Choir.
Join us in the dining room at the TRH on Monday 30 November for a bit of singing, a few laughs and some early Christmas cheer. You don't need to be able to sing — you just need to be willing to have a go!
Bar open and food available from 5.30pm Singing kicks off at 7.00pm
Round up a few friends, grab a drink and join in.
Everyone welcome. See you there!
